4-H Events & Activities

4-H Camp Cherry Lake:
Gadsden County 4-H Program is proud to announce 2008 Camp Cherry Lake, June 9 - 13, 2008. This week long residential educational and fun camping experience is held at 4-H Camp Cherry Lake in Madison County. Youth will learn while building social skills, environmental awareness, citizenship, and leadership skills. Transportation will be provided. This camp is open to youth 8 - 13. Cost is $175.00 per child. We will be camping with Levy County 4-H this year. Registration Deadline is May 16, 2008
4-H Congress:
Held on the campus of the University of Florida during the summer, this is a fabulous week in which 4-H members can have fun and learn alongside other 4-Her's from Florida. Congress is divided into competitive and non-competitive sessions. The non-competitive portion is devoted to educational workshops on a variety of subjects addressing the interests of Florida’s youth. The competitive portion of the event is where first place senior District Winners compete against other District Winners in a variety of events. In addition, each county sends two voting delegates to attend the State 4-H Council Meetings. Interviews for State Recognition and Scholarship applicants are conducted during this event.
4-H County Camp:
Gadsden County 4-H is excited to offer a second, local residential camping experience. The newly updated Centenary Camp in Mt. Pleasant is where we will hold the camp June 30 - July 4, 2008. Youth will work through a self-selected, fun, educational track. They will have plenty of fun and recreation while building leadership, citizenship, and life skills. Cost for this camp is $145.00 per child. This camp is open to youth 8 - 16. Registration deadline is June 13, 2008
4-H Legislature:
The Florida 4-H Legislature is a five-day learning laboratory in state government. Young people serve as the Florida 4-H Governor and Lt. Governor; senators and representatives; lobbyists; pages; legislative aides; and news media staff. Participants use 60 pieces of 4-H legislation that Florida youth have submitted during the year. They learn: the functions of state government; parliamentary procedure; public speaking; debate; problem-solving; networking skills; and, the formal structure of policy-making. Participants meet in the Capitol committee rooms; debate in the House and Senate Chambers; have press conferences; and tour the Supreme Court. Adults learn beside teen participants and serve as advisors.
Participation Criteria:
4-H Delegates to the Florida 4-H Legislature are to:
Be 14 years old by September 1 of current program year.
Interested in learning more about state government and being a public policy maker.
Capable of self-discipline to prepare, make decisions and participate with limited supervision.
Positive citizens who can apply good judgment and leadership skills during the event.
